Amoli, the pretty 20 year old protagonist of the show is the eldest daughter of Tukaram Kamble, a farmer form Vidarbha in the interiors of
A favourite of everyone in the family and the village, Amoli shares a bond of love and friendship with them all. An ideal daughter to her parents and the guardian angel of her younger sister Bayo; Amoli manages to hide her hunger and pain during tough times. She shares a sisterly bond with her confidante and best friend Kaumudi who she loves dearly.
However, Amoli comes face to face a grim reality of her existence when she find out that her best friend Kaumudi has been mortgaged to the Thakur because her father Beturam Sahu was in dire need of money for Kaumudi’s wedding. Oblivious to her own father’s economic condition, Amoli is shocked to find out that he is also debt ridden like other farmers in the Taluka.
When the Thakur of the village lays his sight on the virginal Amoli and expresses his desire for her in exchange of money for her father’s debt, the morals that Amoli has been raised with give her the strength to stand for herself and fight it out against the people who demand compromise and submission from her.
Always siding with the truth, Amoli is the voice of thousands of helpless women who are exploited by rich and manipulative men under the pretense of aiding their families during tough times.
Character Sketch - Tani
Tani, the youngest daughter of Tukaram Kamble is 10 years old and a bag of mischief! Her curious nature makes her trail behind Amoli all over the village and partake in every village gossip only to be blurted out later at the most inopportune times, usually causing embarrassment for Amoli. Tani dreams of lavish meals when food is scarce. To her, at times even a raw egg equals a feast! The naughty little girl is the life of the household and the apple of Amoli’s eyes and treats Tani like her own child. Amoli happily gives up her share of happiness for her sister.

Character Sketch – Mothi Aayi
At around 65 years old, Mothi Aayi is the eldest member in the house. Bedridden and immobile due to arthritis and back problems, the old lady however retains her spirit as she shares all the village gossip and by nitpicking constantly in every household matter. A typical village mother in law, she expects her daughter in law to deliver a male child the third time. Her conversation is always enriched with the regional saying and beliefs. Her granddaughters Amoli and Bayo love to pull her leg and trouble her harmlessly.
Character Sketch - Suman
A pregnant woman in her late thirties, Suman is Tukaram’s wife. She’s an uneducated rural woman but wise in homely affairs. She feels dejected when she sees her children starving, but is unable to do much about the circumstances. Her only shoulder to cry on is her husband. Although she is pregnant, she still shares farming responsibilities with her husband after finishing household chores. Quiet and soft spoken by nature, due to her rural upbringing and conditioning, she often is just a mute spectator to everything that happens around her.
